A New Kind of Beautiful Contradiction

Since most of the products we initially launched were so close to being CLEAN, we decided to make them (and future products) CLEAN whenever possible. CLEAN has become a buzzword with different meanings, so we wanted to be specific with you on what it means to us. When you see a Pretty Vulgar product with a CLEAN symbol, it means we have formulated it without:

    • Formaldehyde-releasing agents

    • Mineral Oil
    • Palm Oil
    • Retinyl Palmitate
    • Oxybenzone
    • Coal Tar
    • Hydroquinone
    • Triclosan
    • Triclocarban
    • Synthetic fragrances are allowed provided they are disclosed and meet all of the above criteria and are at concentrations below 1% of total formula
    • Acrylates: specific to the ones below

    • Methylchloroisothiazolinone & Methylisothiazolinone
    • Mercury + Mercury Compounds (Thimerisol)
    • Insoluble Plastic Microbeads
    • Resorcinol
    • Talc: Asbestos free talc is ok. Brands need to conduct testing to ensure no contamination.
    • Toluene
    • BHA/BHT: BHT threshold is 0.1%
    • Ethanolamines DEA/TEA/MEA/ETA
    • Nanoparticles - size range 1 nm-100 nm; larger than this range ok
    • Petrolatum & Parrafin - *PAH-free white petrolatum USP ok
    • Phenoxyethanol- under 1% ok
    • Polyacrylamide & Acrylamide
    • Styrene: specific to the ones below

    • 1,4 Dioxane thresholds:
                                i.   10 or < ppm for rinse off products
